This series of sculpture I call Cloud Constructions due to the way in which the forms are reminiscent of clouds. It investigates ways of seeing inside and out space using colour and line. The intention is to draw and scatter the eye to investigate different parts of the form simultaneously.
This series of sculpture develops from a construction made from Stoneware. Singular geometric components such as the cylinder and cone are made on the potter’s wheel use traditional throwing skills combined with hand-building techniques. I then apply coloured slips, line and pattern to the surface through controlled multiple firings. This creates depth and contrast to which a glaze is then applied; the work is then fired to a final temperature of around 1220⁰c - 1260⁰c.
